Most outlets in malls and stand alone locations carry a security gate system. These uses very expensive plastic arches at the store doorways and are situated a few meters apart. These security devices are intended to be the last line of defense of stores from shoplifters. By tagging each dress or merchandise with plastic or sticker type transponders, alarms at the security gates are triggered when tagged merchandise are brought out of the stores through the gates.

Up until recently, this old system was state of the art. The acousto-magnetic tags are set off when tagged merchandise pass through the gates. However, shoplifters work around it by removing the tag or by taping a coin onto the tags thereby disabling the system. It is the most expensive security doorbell system but it is no longer a threat to shoplifters.
